ASK THE EXPERTS :: CELEBRITY STYLE
Erin Le Clerc, Catwalkqueen, Shoewawa & ShoeGlorious

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW, FROM THOSE IN THE KNOW!

Erin Le Clerc knows a thing or two about celebrity style.  This Australian born celebrity writer has made her mark as Shiny Media's newest IT writer.  She is the celebrity writer for Catwalk Queen, Shoewawa and The Bag Lady.  And this wonderwoman even has time for her own blog, ShoeGlorious.  From shoes to bags to clothes, we found your answers straight from the expert.

WCW:  Who is the best dressed celebrity on the red carpet?

There are lots of women who consistently look great, but my favourites are Scarlett Johansson and Sarah Jessica Parker.  Both women have very distinctive styles – Scarlett, of course, is the amazing vintage goddess of the silver screen; Sarah Jessica is less classic, but a lot more quirky – and she carries it beautifully.  I also love Helen Mirren – for a woman in her 60s, she looks incredible (and not at all plastic!), and she’s still wearing stunning, revealing, but classy couture.  I hope I’m doing the same when I hit sixty!

WCW: Off the red carpet?

I love Rachel Bilson’s style to bits.  She always looks adorable and effortless, and most importantly - never over-styled.

WCW:  If money was not an issue, what item do you dream about?
I’m getting married next year, and there’s a beautiful
wedding dress by designer Claire Pettibone that I would love to get my hands on.  If I had a spare $15,000 it’d be hanging in my wardrobe right now!

Another item I’ve been lusting after is a pair of Tamara Henriques kitten heel wellies, and they’re much more affordable than the wedding dress, thank goodness!  It has been raining for two weeks here in Scotland, and it’s cold and miserable – which is compacted by soggy, wet feet every time you leave the house!  I particularly love the plaid kitten heels and the floral ballet flats.

WCW:  Who is your favorite designer?
I have a few!  I think that
Elie Saab’s couture gowns are beautiful, especially his S/S07 collection.  Pictures of his gowns never do them justice, because when you watch them on the catwalk, the movement and shapes are seriously amazing, and those aspects are harder to capture in still photography.

I love Marc Jacobs’ accessories, and I’ve been drooling over the ridiculous metallic silvery-blue Stam

from his S/S07 collection since I first laid eyes on it.

I’m also a big fan of Roberto Cavalli and his over-the-top designs.  His current collection  is incredibly luxurious, and is rampant with rich, sumptuous materials like velvet brocade, embroidered and printed satin and embossed suede.  His velvet brocade boots make my heart turn to mush; I’m that in love with them!

What are the must-have items for the season?
Birds (especially owls and swallows) and wings are a recurring theme at the moment - I’ve seen them on clothing, jewellery, shoes, bags and scarves.  You name it - it’s got
wings on it!  If you’re looking for one piece to purchase, go for a bird or wing pendant or necklace.  It’s bang on trend, and is a nice quirky investment for future seasons.

Hats are also making a come-back, undoubtedly related to the vintage obsession we’ve been enjoying.  At the moment, celebrities are sporting everything from wide-brim hats, to beanies, to berets.  If you’re looking for just one, go for a classic beret in a colour that suits you, and jazz it up with a brooch or sequin appliqué.

Are there any trends that we should watch out for?
Expect to see over-sized rhinestone beading everywhere pretty soon.  It featured in quite a few Spring / Summer 2007 collections, from subtle patterns in some of
Giambattista Valli’s pieces to Marc Jacobs fantastically crazy headpieces and bejewelled handbags

Burberry added oversized beading embellishments to one of their S/S07 runway dresses, which was then worn by Mischa Barton a few weeks ago.  We’ve also seen a rather unusual Mulberry bag appear on style.com absolutely covered in beading, when it’s a style that the brand wouldn’t usually go for.  It’s going to be massive.

What is the must-have item right now?
Ever since
Sienna Miller walked the red carpet in the gold sequin Burberry mini-dress, every high street outlet in the UK – from Primark to Marks & Spencer – have produced their own version.  It’s been touted as the ‘must-have’ dress of the season, and all of the versions of the dress have been selling like hot-cakes!

Perfect Outfit for day:
There are so many options; but if you buy a pair of versatile, gorgeous boots, it’ll increase the fabulous factor of any of your outfits.  Boots look great with
dresses, skirts and pants, so it’s hard to go wrong.

Perfect Outfit for night:
A
beautiful coat is a must for night-time outings.  If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s starting to get really cold – and no matter how great an outfit you’re wearing, if it’s under a drab coat, it spoils it.  A coat is a real investment piece, so spend wisely, and it’ll last you for years.  Try on lots of styles, colours and prints to find out what suits you best, and make sure it’s well cut.  If you don’t trust your own judgement, take an honest (and patient) friend along with you, to keep you in line! J
